My friend Susan came to visit last week and gave us some biscuits. Jeanne took quite a liking to them (chocolate wafers). As usual, Kimmi wants whatever Jeanne is having, so here they are side by side eating the biscuits. Quite cute to watch both of them together.
We also decided we’d better start potty training Kimmi. I told Jennylyn to let her sit on the potty randomly a few times every morning, and to praise her lavishly if she happened to pee. On the first day, she actually did pee twice.
Unfortunately she has since come down with mild running nose and occasional cough, so we’ve shelved the potty training for the moment because it adds to our (and her) stress.
Jennylyn bought rambutans from the market today and showed them to Jeanne, who was quite taken by them. KK washed one and gave it to her to play with. She dried it with a tissue, and was wandering around with it, so I took a photo.
After that she tried feeding it to her duckie. She called it “Butan”.
We had parents-teacher’s meeting at her school today as well, and Teacher Sumathy says she has progressed quite a lot this term. She’s much better behaved and she likes arts and craft a lot (on Friday she did a Father’s Day card and coloured a Father’s Day picture, so it was apt that KK picked her up that day and was given the card straight away. For Mother’s Day she came out of school waving a card at me too, but when Teacher Catherine asked, “What must you say?” she promptly replied, “Happy birthday.”).
Her Chinese teacher said the main thing now is to encourage her to speak Chinese, since she understands and can recognise words and read, but replies in English if spoken to. So I have started her on that at home, ie if she asks me for biscuits, I make her ask me in Chinese.
I feel she has progressed a lot in her Chinese. She can read all the flash cards I’ve bought, and she seems happy learning Chinese from me. eg she asked me what cable car was in Chinese, and then asked if I was going to make a flashcard of it for her (I have been making my own flash cards). Ditto for firefly. Then she likes reading her Chinese books aloud to me, and she has her favourite stories (“I want to read Lao Tai Tai”, or “I want to read toilet” etc).
